Thanks for the help!
We didn't finish on top, but we had a great showing! Thanks again to everyone who helped us search for DARPA's red balloons.
In the end we found 9 balloons thanks to the contributions of all our team members and from direct balloon spotters to those who
helped scour the Internet for hints about other balloon locations.
We made a valiant attempt in our efforts to take home $40k for the Red Cross! Farewell.
What's this all about?
If you see a large red balloon in the sky on December 5th, let us know where you saw it. You
will be part of a team effort to win $40K that will be donated to charity, plus all the fame and
attention that comes with that!
On Saturday, December 5th, 2009 at 10:00am EST, DARPA will launch ten 8-foot red weather
balloons across the United States, held in place by a tether. The first team to submit the locations
of all ten balloons will win $40,000! This contest is called the
DARPA Network Challenge, sponsored
by
DARPA, the people who (among
other things) hold contests to
build cars that drive themselves.
The
I Spy A Red Balloon team has pledged to donate all of the
prize money to the American Red Cross. The entire team is volunteering their time, so absolutely no
money will be used for any other purpose. Every dollar that we win from DARPA will be given directly
to the Red Cross.

What's that got to do with me?
No small group of individuals could hope to solve this puzzle on their own, thus we're
recruiting for the
I Spy A Red Balloon team and we need your help!
It's easy to participate. On Saturday, December 5th the balloons will be up from 10:00am EST to
4:00pm (local time). Take a look around you - out the window, down the street ... maybe check out
your local traffic camera website. Be creative. If you spot a red balloon, visit this website and
let us know!
